Pendleton-framed homes head north
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Habitat for Humanity began on-site framing construction Oct. 3 on four new homes in San Juan Capistrano.
The frames were among 20 sets constructed at Camp Pendleton during an April blitz build that—with the help of 1,000 volunteers—took just five hours.
“These homes are very special to us—not only because of the incredibly generous volunteers who gathered at Camp Pendleton to jump-start our construction by building all of these house frames—but because these homes are a part of our Homes for Heroes and Foundations for Families pilot program,” Sharon Ellis, executive director, Habitat for Humanity of Orange County, said in a news release.
Through the program, 14 of the 27 homes are being designated for combat-disabled veterans or their surviving families.
Habitat for Humanity families and volunteers have built 128 homes in Orange County since 1988 and, besides the four homes in San Juan Capistrano, the organization is also constructing two homes in Fullerton.
